about

@fearlessflight2014:
I'm ashamed to admit that John sent me this piece for last year's FAWM and I though I had something but I couldn't get it to work so I put aside. I revived it at the beginning of the month but my original idea just wouldn't stretch to fit the massive expanse of this bed. So I started from scratch and this is what came out. I like to try to finish things even when they hurt my brain. There's stuff here that I like and stuff I'm not sure about... but it's past midnight and it's time to post this and sleep. I will surprise John with it when he wakes up tomorrow. A nice surprise hopefully.

@zecoop : It was a very nice surprise indeed!! I had pretty much forgotten about this one, but completely understand how FAWM can overwhelm and songs fall through the cracks. I always figure that songs will get done when they are supposed to and I would much rather wait for a fully realized song than a rushed version. And no matter what Liz thinks of what she’s done, I am simply blown away. Every time. Every single collab we do, I am just amazed. Liz, you have given what J sent you an epic addition. The vocal harmonies, the bass - wow. I love this so much.
(Since this was last year's FAWM for my part, I’ll put an asterisk next to this one and say that I now need to get to 15 to get an ‘official’ win this year.)

lyrics

Too many waves this time
Salt water stings my lungs
Too tired to wave goodbye
Blue green oblivion

You’re telling me, you’re telling me,
You’re telling me “It’ll all be fine”
You’re telling me, you’re telling me, telling me
“Place a bet. Don’t give up just yet.” oh-oh
Stop telling me, stop telling me
Can’t you see I'm helpless kelp on the tide?
Stop telling me, stop telling me, telling me
Cant you see

Can’t you see I’m a fool who swam too far
and now I’m all but done,
I'll never reach your lifeline
The ocean’s almost won

You’re telling me, you’re telling me,
You’re telling me “It’ll all be fine”
You’re telling me, you’re telling me, telling me
“Place a bet. Don’t give up just yet.” oh-oh
Stop telling me, stop telling me
Can’t you see I'm helpless kelp on the tide?
Stop telling me, stop telling me, telling me
Cant you see, can’t you see that I can’t breathe?

I can’t breathe
And I can’t tell up from down
and I can’t see
I can’t find my way out

I see you on the shoreline
So far from where I’ll drown
Your words have lost all meaning
A distant hollow sound

You’re telling me, you’re telling me,
You’re telling me “It’ll all be fine”
You’re telling me, you’re telling me, telling me
“Place a bet. Don’t give up just yet.” oh-oh
Stop telling me, stop telling me
Can’t you see I'm helpless kelp on the tide?
Stop telling me, stop telling me, telling me
Cant you see, can’t you see

I’m treading water
Treading water, trying to hold on
I’m treading water
I can’t breathe water

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
