If Batman Can’t Keep A Girlfriend What Hope Have I (ft Steven Wesley Guiles)

about

ZeCoop:
Steve and I had a nearly two hour conversation the other night, which was great. Topics big and small, but one things that we talked about was guitar tones and he mentioned that he had learned to put a small piece of foam by the bridge of his acoustic to mute the tone a bit. I do this with bass sometimes, but I was intrigued and this song immediately came out when I tried it. I sent it over and Steve did the amazing things he does (vocals and drums here). I love writing music with SWG. Thank you for creating with me!! :)

Steve note: I came up with verse 1 first. I liked my verse a lot, but then I wrote the chorus. It just felt kind of boring to me. It wasn't really SAYING anything. It wasn't about anything. Which is ok, and it doesn't have to be, but for me, having something to focus my idea makes the song more fun and intriguing. So, I came up with the idea of it being somehow about Batman's love life (or lack of) and that really helped make it interesting to ME. (If you're own song bores you I think it's a good idea to change it). I came up with the title and then that helped with the bridge concept and made the other verses and the chorus even make more sense...to me at least.

ZeCoop likes to remember what he played, which was:
Breedlove Atlas Stage D25 acoustic 6 string (with foam beneath the strings)
Harley Benton P-bass through a YYZ preamp

lyrics

VERSE 1
I was filled up on fan fiction
and you, you were on the page
there is nothing quite like friction
it burns, then slowly fades away

CHORUS
reasons
for tryin’
for walkin’
for flyin’
reasons
for dyin’
and livin’
and lyin’

VERSE 2
we were barely past our primes, love
but we could somehow still make haste
and there were reasons for our crimes, love
but we, we managed to escape

BRIDGE
i’m not sure that batman knew the way
to remove all of his shame
so he punched his way right through the wall
i can’t say, if he did it wrong or did it right
won’t go down without a fight
so he spent his cash on tech and wings
and pissed off dark and scary things
and maybe that’s just his thing
but maybe he was wrong
yeah maybe he was wrong

VERSE 3
caves were not just built for hiding
sometimes they can be to retrain
our thoughts can often be misguided
and needs a place that knows their name

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
