about

ZeCoop: Sometimes I write a song and just can hear a certain voice singing on it, and this was definitely one of those. After putting together a chimey guitar pop song, I really hoped that @Owl would want to add to it. She has an incredible way of telling stories in her lyrics that paint such vibrant images in my head. Her soft vocal was just perfect. Every year, I hope we can write another song and I'm glad it worked out again this FAWM! Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice and storytelling with us. :)

owl:
I love the pretty jangling guitars and unusual structure of the instrumental @zecoop sent me. I wasn't sure what to write about, so I used the Plot Spline Muse tool to get inspiration for the lyrics--it gave me "write a song in third person ("he/she/it") in which the main character is thinking out loud. the story takes place in the past, and the scene is a moving vehicle." And as soon as I thought of the setting, Lucy's story came together in my head. Thanks @zecoop for the fun collab!

lyrics

Clickety-clack away from the platform
Lucy dozes and dreams of the great parade
Where once she waved
From floats on holidays
Yeah, once she played
To sold out shows every weekend
Yeah, every weekend

Lucy mumbles her bright recollections
To the empty seats across the aisle
Sometimes a smile
Crosses her face as she quietly mentions
Her days as a star of stage and screen
A gilded dream

Lucy and the lioness
Roamed the Burbank movie set
Between the pirates and the heartthrobs
Breaking hearts like shattered flashbulbs
Lucy knew she'd be remembered
With her curls and liquid eyes
Long after the lioness
Grew old, grew weak, and died

The Lucy on the movie posters
Is not the same as the Lucy who went gray
And faded away
The Lucy who the world remembers
Is not the same as the Lucy in the mirror
Who one day appeared

Outside the windows of the train
Lucy thinks she sees a lion
Running on the interstate
On the shoulder of the busy highway
Lucy knows it's just illusion
Cardboard carried by the wind
But for a moment it looked just like an old friend

Clickety-clack away from the platform
Lucy dozes and dreams of the great parade
Where once she waved
From floats on holidays
Yeah, once she played
To sold out shows every weekend
Yeah, every weekend
Every weekend
Yeah, every weekend

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
