ZeCoop: After posting my original version, I asked @thinkalto (who lives just across town) if he'd like to add a melody with his viola. He's a professional musician and I told him to just go for whatever sounded right. I gave him the 'chords' (he let me know what the chords actually were, haha) and he sent me over the viola part as I was sitting here without power. The four day power outage, at first, was a real downer on my FAWM, but it ended up revitalizing me and I was excited to get this mixed. His viola playing is so pretty and adds so much to my incomplete instrumental. I am really happy with it, so here is the new and improved version from the Kalamazoo area FAWM team. :)

Piano is a challenge for me, because although I had eight years of lessons, they ended over 40 years ago and I have lost all of the technical skills, other than what I started with - playing by ear. This always completely annoyed my teachers and I am sure that instructors nowadays can adequately address different learning styles. Anyway, all that to say that writing a song on piano is an exercise in frustration for me. But with enough practice (and takes and tracks in my DAW) I can manage them!!

This one started out with the piano yesterday and I only added some atmospheric guitar. Today, as I was listening, I felt it needed just a little more so I added a few versions of my ride cymbal.

We got an absolute gusher of a rainstorm today here in SW Michigan. The temperature was 48F and that isn't really normal this time of year, so it was pretty impressive pounding onto the roof of my house as I lay in bed. (I can't even imagine how much snow we would have gotten with *normal* temps) But I find huge rainstorms calming for the most part and I love watching them (in the summer when it is warm, haha).

I played:
Yamaha P120 digital piano
Epiphone Les Paul (split to single coil) through a bunch of pedals (delay, vibrato, chorus, reverb). The EHX Oceans 11 reverb is giving all the wonderful sweet ringing.
My ride cymbal, pulled into my studio from where the kit is.
