***This version has re-recorded vocals***
Now that Karl is back in the UK, he re-recorded his vocals in his studio, and even added a few new things... Amazing!!! :)
Karl says
Ok so firstly being on this tiny island doesn’t make for easy fawming . Internet off at random points during the day, not having internet at bungalow etc .
However , the rather magnificent John Cooperider sent me a perfect acoustic instrumental over a week and a half ago and I finally managed to work something to it , although my throat was on its last legs ( if that makes sense 😜)
So I wrote some lyrics and recorded the vocals outside my little red hut mainly , but also behind reception on the beach .
Lyrics wise I had no idea what to do then I thought , well as I am so musically connected to john and I am mighty grateful for the years of collab a we done , i’d Turn it into a little bromance letter ❤️😜.
(One verse is even me being him, talking to me 😵)
Anyway I think this will be my final song this year as not many days left and throat is doing too much live work but what a nice way to finish .
And I am super behind with my listening but will be catching up with you all these next few days . Hooorah . Massive fawm love to you all from koh phayam ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh and I added a little synth instrumental on my tiny phone piano 😀
ZeCoop:
Well, this was a wonderful gift on my Monday morning back at work! It's hard to even describe the feelings that this song gives me. Everyone does FAWM a little differently, because songwriting is a very personal thing. I have always approached every song as my next favorite, and expect to love every one, which has nearly always happened (Ahem, Yacht, ahem... ). Collaborations, for me, have an even deeper meaning, and that meaning has grown even more important over the years, as I get to know certain songwriters and either write songs specifically with them in mind, or realize a song I have written sounds like it would be a perfect match for someone in particular. Karl is an amazing artist and can write/play just about anything, and I was a fan as soon as I heard his music. We've collaborated on rockers and acoustic and I've been astounded every time by how he transforms songs.
So, as I said in the last song we did, I was bummed when he said he wasn't going to do FAWM. But... once we had our rocker done successfully, I went to work writing an acoustic song for him. I put a partial capo on my 6 string and came up with this, adding my 12 string on the other side. It was obviously a fully acoustic vibe, so I added just about every shaker I own, tambourine and my cajon. It sounded like it would be a good candidate for fretless bass, which terrified me, but it actually worked out!! (second or third song ever)
Karl really brought this song to a higher plane in so many ways. I am truly touched by the lyrics and feel the same way he does. I have a special connection with my collaborations and with my collaborators, and always hope that the same can be said from the other direction. I am an extremely lucky person to have made so many wonderful friends here, and I truly do consider many people friends, although we have never met. I've met a couple, and certainly hope to increase that number. I am certain that Karl and I will get to hang out one day, hopefully not that far in the future! 😀
