Antares Sector 10 Outpost

So, this past weekend Mrs ZeCoop was out of town and so I got to do all kinds of crazy noise making experiments. One of which was an idea I had to use my Tascam 488mkII 8-track cassette player to record both my drum set and my Volca Beats. I wanted to record something with the intention of turning the cassette over and putting it into the computer in reverse. I recorded two "songs" that way. One is headed to Japan for vocals/additions, but this one kind of had a life of its own.

Once I got the drumkit tracks mixed into the computer, I transferred the reverse Volca Beats track and did some cutting/pasting to assemble a song. Once I had the beat organized into something that appeared to be a song, I started adding things. The Mellotron really called out for some reason, so I added orchestra and flute. Then I added a bunch of synth parts and one more track of random noise from the SunRa midi instrument (so cool...)

It sounded very spacey to me, similar to a song I wrote a few years back that made me think of a lost space traveler. I won't make this person lost, but they do appear to be isolated. I'll just say that they are ok with that and exploring the sector and reporting back occasionally. 😀

Lots of MIDI - I've had this Keystation 49 keyboard for 3 years but could never get MIDI to work... until this year. I changed to Reaper last year but never tried MIDI. It works great!
Mellotron (orchestra and flute) - Tapeotronic
Bass synth - TAL Bass
Piano(ish) and icy synth - Dexed (DX7 midi)
Random noise - Sun Ra ambient texture generator
