This is an impromptu collab with my dear friend and the bass player in my band, Treading Bleu - the amazingly talented @zecoop!
Side note: This may be my final track for FAWM 2019! I have band practice tonight and possibly will be performing on Thursday and have another show on Friday (I know that's March). I have a couple others collabs I was trying to finish up in time but I also don't want to rush or just throw some lyrics I'm not totally happy with at them because they are both for working bands I'm in with the intention of going on albums and being performed. So... yeah. I think this is a terrific one to go out on. I got to collab with every single bandmate I have (and that's quite a list if you read my bio...3 different musical projects going on right now aside from solo writing). Thank you so much to everyone who's listened and commented! I'll be continuing to listen back and comment well into March! Much love to you all! It's been a great year. <3

STACY SAYS:
Well. I was NOT supposed to be up until 1:30am again tonight! I'm going to be paying for this so hard tomorrow..er..today. I started on two other ideas tonight...but wasn't getting too far. I took a pause around 7pm to actually eat something tonight (since I skipped that again yesterday). @zecoop literally texts me at 7pm to see if it was too late for a collab this year. I said "Sure send it over - I can't promise anything, but I'll see if I get inspired." He sent me two tracks. I never even opened the 2nd one. I just threw the first in Reaper - turned on the mic and hit play and record. Without ever hearing the song I just freestyled over it. It was dark and the track brought out a mixture of some jazzy-pop-rap-like cadences. I was... ok, cool. Let's make this work. This is something to work with. I did a bunch of weird shit so I just kept as much of it as I could. I had a lyric cloud window popped up on the other screen so some of those words crept in. There are a few lines I'd still like to redo for a better take but it was REALLY LATE and my poor husband was trying to sleep in the next room. Haha.
Lyrically it turned into a bit of a political rant on the state of affairs in the US right now. I have had to literally shut myself off from news as much as possible. I just can't deal. I wake up and still can't believe the things that have been happening and cannot comprehend how we are where we are right now. The "check check, 1,2 bits were literally me checking my mic levels - but that little "clink clink" in the song must have just attached to my brain instantly - because I sang it to the rhythm of them... and when I listened back I was like - shoot, that actually sounds cool. So I made them part of the song and re-introduced them throughout. Also - I liked the analogy that I was tapping a big ole' mic (the nation) like..."Hey, is this thing on? It doesn't really seem to be working right now." Also in regard to people checking themselves. Are you really so heartless? We're all human. We all have the same needs and deserve the same rights.
Anyhoooo. The dark, eery synth intro to this AWESOME track from John inspired a sad, observant, dismal, frustrated (yet oddly upbeat and danceable) song from me and it just grew from there. We are all immigrants, refugees, (their descendants), or Native Americans. Those are the only choices. I really hate hate. Check yourself. Only love people. Only love.
(*The chaotic red/white/blue blur in my photo was totally intentional. haha Things are bonkers right now.)

JOHN SAYS:
I love everything about how this one came together. I had a feeling that this song might resonate, and I just love what Stacy did and how she did it. The 1,2,1,2 check checks set the tone and the whole theme fits together. I'm so glad that she was willing to sacrifice the following work day, because this was amazing to wake up and hear!
