about

Since I started FAWM in 2011 by writing songs with my dad, each year I always try to make some songs with his wonderful lyrics. I'm much more comfortable writing music than I am writing melodies or singing, but that's part of the FAWM challenge, right?

These lyrics were very touching and emotional. Part of getting older is realizing you can't do some things you used to and relationships change. Even as these changes have been a part of my parent's lives, they are still the best examples of life partners, and are inspirational.

I thought that my Farfisa Pianorgan might be a good instrument to use, because it always seems to give an authentic emotional touch to the songs I have written on it (plus it only saw 10 seconds of use on the 10x10 I did with @guatecoop). Then, since it didn't have all the bass buttons I needed, I decided to try to add accordion. I completely stink at accordion - terrible, but I was able to get something passable done after many tries. A little bass guitar and vocal and here you go. 😀

I can never seem to fit the original words into my musical phrasing, but there were only a few words moved or added in this one, so I'm getting closer.

lyrics

Long ago I took the lead
And opened the door
I drove
She took the lesser role

When we went out
I chose the place
Let her out
At the front door

Pulled out her chair
And hung up her coat
Told the server
What we would eat

Now she is always
Watching out for me
She drives and
Hands me my cane

And at dinners
She fixes my plate
And helps me to
My chair

The life we live
Is treasured still
But changed
Forevermore

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
