After completing what i think will be the high point of my FAWM on Saturday, I kind of got into a funk. Once I got thinking about it, it really is pretty understandable, as my thoughts have gone up and down in kind of a cycle ever since the loss of my brother. Dealing with grief is hard and so I had an idea of how to relay that into music.
I put 8 different complimentary tracks on a cassette, repeating them until the side of the tape ran out (about 12 minutes). I wanted to try a live mix, bringing the tracks up and down with effects on. But when i tried it with the set of tracks I had made, I had made them too complex, so they didn't mix well. That got me even further down, so I took a break and ate some dinner. My wife and I took a five mile walk (37F out there, but the roads were clear, so we averaged 14.5 minute miles).
After that, I transferred all the tracks to my computer and then recorded over many of the tracks on the cassette with new simpler parts, keeping only a few. This worked much better, so I took three tries and recorded each one. This is the third take, but I still want to try it again, as I was starting to get the hang of it and forgot to do a couple things I wanted to try.
Here's a video of me recording this song... 😀
