Done drumming (Mrs ZeCoop is very thankful) 😉
So, yes, only 10 years, and it was way too long of a wait. I've adored Caterwauler's amazing soundscapes and music the whole time I have been a part of FAWM. Since I am a lifelong fantasy book reader, the fact that her creations describe civilizations and story lines from what she writes made her music even more compelling. So, I honestly had been hesitant to ask her for a collaboration, even though I had wanted to ever since I started collaborating on FAWM. This year I saw someone had sent her a piano piece and they had collaborated and I kind of joked on the song comments that maybe my dream of collaborating might come true. She asked if she had ever said no... And well, since I had never asked I had to tell her that she had not. That got us talking and since we had both commented often on each other's songs, we decided we would do something.

I had made another ambient piece this year by recording tracks of notes and instruments on my 8-track cassette recorder, and then had mixed them live (Circular Thoughts) and I thought that might be a good way to go. I recorded two tracks of my two different wind chimes, just randomly ringing them for 12 minutes. I added a beat with my analog VolcaBeats. Then I built a "drum set" out of pots and pans. The lid to my wok (had it 30 years) has a beautiful low C bell tone. Every time I cook stir fry I have to ding it. The pots actually made a nice triad. I recorded two tracks of a synth wash, and a track of effects drenched guitar. For the last track I had my brother @guatecoop record his BIG wind chimes that are on his front porch. I also was sent a wonderful sample that @postcardhelicopters had recorded outside of a brass water fountain they had found. Plus more of my wok lid. 😀

I was going to mix it live, but i wanted something specially composed for Joanne, so I transferred all eight tracks to my DAW and worked on the song there with her in mind. It was a special experience making this and even more special when i heard how it turned out. I'm just speechless. Thank you SO much for allowing me to create this song with you, Joanne! <3 😀

It only took us 10 FAWMs to get to collab...
John took me back where I come from with the wonderful track he sent me : riding on long, trippy pieces that take their time to say what they have to say.
This one was already *amazing* when I received it. I went with voices and guitars, violining and non violining. I enjoyed the ride very much, thank you John. ❤️

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
