about

Rob: ZeCoop and I met last FAWM and have stayed in touch on Instagram as fellow gear nerds. We tentatively planned a collab and I wasn’t sure we’d manage it in time but - we did it!

ZeCoop came up with a great idea, and sent me a fantastic drum and acoustic guitar track and asked me to do whatever I wanted over the top. There’s lots of 90s alt rock guitar in what I came up with (I was getting a Pearl Jam vibe with the verse part), and I’m really happy with the interplay between ZeCoop's acoustic guitars and my bass and electric guitar riffs. Lyrically there’s a few things going on - the state of the world right now got me thinking of escapism and helplessness on an individual level while the chorus sections are kind of a call to action but also a reminder that it will all pass - one way or another. Nothing is forever.

Really enjoyed working on this and a real pleasure to get to play around on the sandbox of ZeCoop’s superb musicianship - oh and to use the goldfoil-modded vintage Musicmaster he digs ;)

ZeCoop: Yeah, it has been fun talking guitar this past year. I'm super glad we were able to figure out something before we hit the end of FAWM. This song came out really quickly when I got to Rob's name on my collab list. I did a lot of directed songwriting this year for people I have written with before, but I although I had heard Rob's stuff last year and this year, I didn't really have a good handle on exactly what to write. But, since we both have geeked out over various guitar things in the past year, I just strummed my acoustics like mad and wrote something that left a huge space for him to explore and fill in. It's always great to hear a lead guitar person, since that is absolutely NOT me, but all his great rhythm electric guitars made such a fun interwoven tapestry of sound as well, along with the bass playing and vocal melody. I especially love what he did with my breakdown bridge section. Amazing job taking a pretty open palette and crafting a great song together with me. This was a lot of fun to do, so I am sure there will be more! Thanks Rob!!

lyrics

We live in the moment
Forever seems a long long way away
And I wake from a bad dream
But it keeps running away with me

The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

Way out in the ocean
Where there’s nothing to fear for me
The lights come ever closer
And I’m afraid that
The waves might wash me away to sea

The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

All in my imagination
I hope and pray that I
Keep my head this time

All in my fabrication
I left you open wide to
Run a country mile

You see my desperation lines
Turning a blind eye
Wasting all my time
On my big mouth

Start to lose my grip
It all begins to slip away

The bigger they are
The harder they fall
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

The bigger they are
The louder they call
The setting of suns
Comes to us all

All in my

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
