My fifth 8-track cassette in five days... This is yet another of the drum songs I recorded at the beginning of the week. For this one I covered the snare and toms with dish towels to give it a 60/70's feel. I added bass guitar this morning and to keep that vibe, I put a piece of foam under the strings by the bridge to get the 60/70's muted sound. As soon as I started playing I knew I was on to something and could hear the guitar part I wanted. Once I recorded that I heard a lot of other things that kinda scared me... like horns. I can technically play trombone (I played all the way through college), but not very well anymore. So, I added some Hammond organ and shakers to finish off the eight tracks and transferred them from the Tascam 488mkII to my computer.
I added a few things in my DAW - tambourine, claps (3x) and trombone (3x). I wanted to keep my record of writing, recording and posting the 8-track songs in one day, so here it is. I'll be tweaking it (and soon it will be complete with a whole bunch of jelly from @cts)

This song started as "Saturday Night Shindig" but as soon as I wrote it I *KNEW* who it was going to go to... Only one person was going to be right for this - the song needed some JELLY! I am so glad he had the time to take it on. @cts and I are both going through the loss of a close family member and this song has been a real pick me up for me, and once you hear his vocal, you'll know it was for him as well. He absolutely knocked this out of the park, out of the county and off the planet. DUDE!!!!!!! Thank you so much for the highlight of my FAWM. You have blessed me with endless smiles and grooving in my cubicle at work. I can't thank you enough! 😀 <3
I took this opportunity to do a couple tweaks to my original mix. I turned up the horns and organ, and put in an amen break type of thing on the last verse by taking out the guitar and bass for a bit. I think it gives it even MORE funkiness. 😀
