about

I came up with an acoustic guitar riff I liked, which was very earthy and nervous sounding. Then I came up with a big open chorus to go with it. To me, the song sounded like a ton of nervous emotions and worry, which then moved into joy and satisfaction in the chorus. I immediately thought of Jacob, who's voice really conveys emotional changes well. He did an amazing job with the lyrical story, vocals and some sweet synth parts! I originally told him this would be a stripped, bare-bones arrangement. Ahem. Yea, then I heard the vocals and heard the drums and bass in my mind. I'm really happy with how this one turned out! 😀

I played:
1960's Silvertone 604 6 string parlor guitar
Tacoma DM912 12 string
Fender Jazz bass
1973 Ludwig Hollywood drum set

Jacob:
When John sent me a scratch track I got excited. I hit a creative wall the past few days and was struggling to break free. I had a half-written lyric in my notes from earlier in the month and when I heard his idea I immediately knew it belonged to it. I rewrote the lyric a bit to fit and wrote the melodies and some synth parts. I really dig how this one turned out

lyrics

JUBILEE
Jacob Everett Wallace

[Part 1]
There's a groaning
Deeper than the present
There's a foreboding
That I haven't arrived yet
What if I never do at all?
What if I never do at all?

(I journey... I justify...)

My heart resides in another world
Longing collides with choosing the process
I still feel the gravel beneath my soles
But I know this journey is just a stepping stone
Building my faith as I press toward the goal

[CHORUS]
To my Jubilee, my eye remains steadfast
To my Jubilee, my face remains strong
To my Jubilee, my gaze remains steadfast
To my Jubilee, to my time of rejoicing
My Jubilee

[Part 2]
There's a warning
Louder than the evidence
There's a trembling
That I won't be good enough
What if I never am at all?
What if I never am at all?

(I journey... I justify...)

My heart dreams to a different beat
Something believes in the beauty of action
I still feel the pain in my feet
But I know this journey is just a stepping stone
Building my faith as I press toward the goal

[End]
I saw beyond the horizon
and I don't want to return
My heart already knows

What my soul will soon discover
My time of rejoicing
My Jubilee
