My Grandpa (ft The Coops)

This had to be the 14th and 'winning' FAWM song, and I'm so excited that we were able to do it! My dad has had a wonderful time in his first 'official' FAWM. He's written lyrics for me since 2011, but we convinced his to put them up here this year and he's had the best time.

He sent me lyrics for a song idea he had that would span three generations and wanted to know if our son Noah @kingofthemoose wanted to sing it. He did and was very excited about it, so I wrote a song on acoustic guitar and thought up a very basic sketch of a melody. I also came up with a general idea for a chorus, using one of the verses my dad wrote.

Noah took the lyrics and wanted to add a bunch of personal things and did a great job coming up with extra lines and tweaking some of the ones that were there to fit our song. It all came together really nicely.

As a bonus, my brother Rob was up for the weekend with his family and so he played drums and bass guitar on the song. And their 5 year old son Evan sang a little too and added some special comments.

My grandpa's getting up there
I think he's 81

At times he is old fashioned

He crushes me in Cribbage
In Euchre mops the floor

We both like competition
But we root for different teams
We both can come together, though, when
The Wolverines get creamed (Go Bucks!)
