ZeCoop:
So... I'm recording very calm tracks for a soft, relaxing ambient song with @caterwauler (fawm.org/songs/108528/) and I have one more track to do. That song has soothing wind chimes, calming synth wash, a gentle beat and I'm thinking maybe an effects drenched guitar track. So I go and grab a guitar (a Les Paul in this case) and go over to the guest bedroom, which (for FAWM only, I am told) is my guitar amp room. I walk in and see my 1950's Silvertone amp that I haven't used yet. I found it on Craigslist for $25 and it just sounds killer. Ahem, not for ambient music, because I typically always have the volume pegged at 10. It's a tiny amp and it's not that loud but gets supremely crunchy and wonderful.

So........................... change of plans. I plug the guitar into that one and start making some noise. No one else was home last weekend, so I was louder than normal. I start messing around and was not really coming up with anything. Then, I think about how my brother Rob and I play guitar so differently. We are very similar, but how we play guitar and compose... VERY different. He plays some very fast chord changes that I often can't even keep up with, but I wanted to try something with fast chord changes. Like Rob might!!

Well the first riff sounds like me trying to sound like Rob. It sounds like me and the rest of the song was pretty much straight up me, but it was the thought that counts!!! I did like it a ton and wanted Rob to play drums and bass. He nailed it (of course) on drums but what I was most impressed with was his AMAZING bass part. He's become a bass force to be reckoned with, ever since he got the Tiesco bass a while back. He's played a long time, but that bass really brought out a new side. His part is fast and fluid and mobile - perfectly compliments the angular staccato guitar part I wrote. I added a super quick guitar solo and here you go. I love it... One of my favorites that we've done! It definitely moves between styles - a mix of Rob and my style on guitar (as much as I could play), and switching from fast indie-rock to new-wave and elsewhere.

Lyrics

lyrics

I'm not playing, I just want to go home

I see that sparkle in your eye
I see the smirk upon your face
I know with certainty that I
Will always be in 2nd place
Won't ask if there's another girl
I know there doesn't need to be
I know that in your little world
You're always top priority

You're always going on at me
You always think the worst of me
And I am sick of your condescension
No more fawning over you
No more following you
No more of my doe eyed adoration

I'm not playing, I just want to go home

You see I'm smarter than you thought
And I have got you figured out
You're like a spider who got caught
In her own web now
So let's just bring this to an end
Our little interaction
I don't need you to pretend
I was any more than a distraction

You're always going on at me
You always think the worst of me
And I am sick of your condescension
No more fawning over you
No more following you
No more of my doe eyed adoration

I'm not playing, I just want to go home

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
