about

Ezra:
This cassette started with some acoustic guitar from @marvsmooth, some mellotron (yes, mellotron!!) and electric guitar from @vomvorton, some drums from @zecoop, and then made its way to me via socialized postal delivery. And I listened to all 8 or so minutes and went, "daaaaaaamn.....what am I gonna do with this???"
And then lo and behold the Sainted spirit of Donovan and his classic "Atlantis" came to me, and I got our the pen and notebook and decided to just go for it with a song called "Pompeii."
So yeah, this could be a metaphor for a relationship you think is never going to end, or anything you think is never going to end, but maybe, really I think, this is just a song about ancient Pompeii. OK?

("Grecia" is what the ancient Pompeiians would have called Greece. Trust me, I looked it up on the Interwebs)

lyrics

O Pompeii, I was loving you today
gorgeous mosaic in every splendid room.
Wine in the courtyard, then love beside the stairs
afterwards we bathed in thermal pools

O my love, it's true
I adore the politic
Come, my love let's stroll among the alleyways
I'll buy you the finest silk

O Pompeii tonight I'll take you back to Graeci
And we'll sit under the stars.
Tragedies from before my grandfather's grandfather
the actors love us with their eyes.

O my love then I know the perfect place
I'll dine there my love, with you.
Feed me olives as I gaze into your perfect face
we'll dine on food the mountain grew.

What could ever change, my love?
we'll always stay the same, my love.
Bury me in fire and ash, my love.
You'll find me and it's you I'm thinking of

O Pompeii, I want to scrawl my love upon your walls
just o everyone here knows.
I would fight or you, a gladiator for your love
you'll cheer as I vanquish your foes.

O my love, the way we cheer the bloody ground
something touches in our soul.
The Gods and Goddesses must smile upon our ancient grounds
what else explains us all?

O Pompeii, as we slip between our finest sheets
smile with love upon our lives,
if the world erupted and ended so suddenly
I know somehow we'd survive

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
