Tectonic Plates (ft Vom Vorton)

about

The music was written and recorded by me on Feb 11, onto an 8-track cassette via my Tascam 488mkII. The instrumental track was sent to Vom and he took a little time to work his magic. The song was finished and posted on Feb 27.

Vom Vorton - zecoop sent me a track earlier in the month that I couldn't seem to get started with, although I think it was just that my brain hadn't started firing out words rather than the track itself. That one went elsewhere, but this other track dropped into my inbox yesterday and apparently my brain is fully operational now as it didn't take long for words to start appearing! I kinda wanted to do something a bit Go Team!-esque with the chanted numbers, that's not an easy sound to emulate but perhaps that inspiration is interesting, I don't know! Anyway for some reason I ended up writing kinda about toxic relationships I guess? But the lyrics are a bit stream-of-consciousness really. Anyway, cheers @zecoop!

ZeCoop: This is a song that had been around in my folders for a while, and I had forgotten what I had actually recorded. I did this song on my Tascam 8-track cassette deck and when I listened back, I actually loved it. It was very different than anything else I did this year, so I sent it over to Vom as a very last minute possibility. I'm so glad that his brain is back on lyric mode - this one was another great surprise! I loved the cheer/chant sections (you nailed it - sounds amazing) and the whole thing adds to the mysterious vibe. Fantastic guitar solo too (or IS it a guitar?!?) - I love it when people take that duty from me! Vom is such an incredibly versatile songwriter and I am honored to be able to team up! Another amazing collaboration experience and yet another new style that we had not really covered before. Wins all around. Cheers!!!

(so that I remember, here's what ZeCoop played)
Epiphone Les Paul into a 1970 Traynor YGM-3 amp
Peavey Fury bass with tape wound strings and a foam pad under the strings
1973 Ludwig Hollywood drum kit.
Recorded onto a Tascam 488mkII without a click. (but added a ton of my own clicks, haha)

here's what Vom played:
Gretsch Streamliner though Big Muff Nano
...erm, singing

lyrics

1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

never could say no to you
even when I needed a break
I fake it but you know it's true
I've been sleeping with one eye awake

took my heart and you want more
joke's on you I still think you're great
lying shaking on the floor
living on tectonic plates

got me wrapped around your finger
tight enough to feel the strain
bruises on my heart may linger
but still I'm smiling through the pain

now you call me when you’re lonely
asking me for one more chance
baby you’re my one and only
and I was saving you this dance

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
