about

I came up with a quirky piece on my $25 1960's Silvertone 604 Parlor guitar, since my regular 6-string was out of commission (temporarily). I added some Melodica, shakers and acoustic bass guitar, then sent it over to Alex... I was expecting something goofy, because it has all these start/stops, but he came back with a very sweet song about why he makes music at all. The lyrics ring true for me too. 😀
(p.s. falling bass line in the bridge...)

Alex: What an amazing track to work with. I feel blessed and spoiled rotten to get to put words to awesomely off-kilter tracks like this one. Thanks ZeCoop for letting me play along!

Leonard Berstein had a lecture series in 1973 that said:
" Even to guess at the answer to 'whither music?', we must first ask whence music? what music? and whose music?"

lyrics

Man that I was
Man that I was

I used to be afraid to sing for you because
I used to be afraid to be true to who I was

Now things have changed
No it's not strange

I want to make pretty music for you
I want to make your dark clouds break into blue
I want to make your sad eyes start smiling again
I want to help you feel joy in your heart, my friend

That's why I do
This thing I do

Yes, what I do
I do it for you

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
