ZeCoop: Another new creation from our brother FAWM weekend. We started this Saturday night around 9pm with the desire to create a new song straight to 8-track cassette. We started writing with me on bass and Rob on drums and were happy with the direction it was going. We recorded a click and my bass part and then Rob wrote and recorded a Hammond organ part. This afternoon we did the live drums and I did an electric guitar part. It is VERY different than what we thought, once again and a new sound for us as a writing team! I love how it turned out and will likely take the tape home to upload into my computer. I might add some horns once I am home. We'll see! (It was so much fun to watch my brother play this amazing groove on the drums!) :)

GuateCoop: This was another fun one! It is nice to work with my brother, as we just move along knowing that we will like whatever comes out. We were determined to use my Tascam 488 for at least one song, so I figured that we should do a sound that would benefit from recording on tape. I originally was thinking of the sounds on "Shake Your Rump" by the Beastie Boys, so the drums were going to be groovy in some way. We worked it out live, but I had to stop playing the drums so loud because we had two nieces over for the night and could hear it..... @zecoop added a super cool bass part instead (he REALLY is a bass player--so fun to watch) and then it was on to what would we do now??? I heard that Hammond B3 sound in my head when they bang on the keys to make it like a percussive fret mute or something but had never done anything like that. Well, I have now....Then the guitar went on and it was the perfect tone and playing. When it came to naming it, I have suggested that he watch "Summer of Soul" (which is AWESOME and has a terribly sad history of being buried for 50 years), so we named it Winter of Soul....hehe. Super fun times. We hope that you like it and hear the effect that recording to tape had on it.

about

ZeCoop Kalamazoo, Michigan

I love playing music and keep learning new instruments. My songs are in a wide range of styles, from indie-rock to surf, to folk to rock to electronic... I never know. I record at home in a studio I put together in a spare room. I work (via the web) with a lot of vocal/lyric collaborators from all over the world.
